One of the advantages of a book is the notion of unity and longevity. A blog is quick, simple and temporary. So, the process of turning blog posts into a book has felt a little like trying to stir compost with the hope that something will grow.
So, here's what's growing:
Title: A Humble Paradox: Why I Am More of a Teacher When I Am Less of a Teacher
Concept: I took the notion of the impact paradox and decided to create smaller chapters that make heavy use of former blog posts. It's hard to pass up some of the posts on social justice, by the way. Perhaps some of them will sneak into the book by the end. I changed the name to "humble paradox" because it seems to fit better. Perhaps I'll change it back to impact. Who knows at this point?
Length: The total length will be about 175-180 pages. It will be a faster read than Sages and Lunatics and I really want to improve the spelling and grammar this go-round. Does anyone want to volunteer as a "mechanics" editor?
Cost: I'll self-publish this for $4.99 which will be essentially selling it at-cost. I'll post it for free as an eBook as well and if I have time I'll read it aloud and let people download it as an audiobook.
A Request: Since I'm selling it at-cost, my only request will be that people give open feedback on Amazon.com. If the book was awful, let people know. If you enjoyed it, let people know as well. It's kind-of fun to go a non-traditional route with my quirky little musings.
if you still need someone to volunteer to edit for mechanics, i will. i know that my lack of capital letters is not encouraging, but that is intentional. before i decided to teach, i planned to be a corporate lawyer and read contracts for a living. the study of words and syntax is fun for me.
ReplyDelete@mrsgee - I'd love to have you edit it! Send me an e-mail at socialvoice@gmail.com and I'll send you my first draft when it's ready!
ReplyDeleteCan't promise I'm perfect on all the mechanics, but I'd be tickled to edit for you.
ReplyDeleteIs Sages and Lunatics set up the same way?
ReplyDeleteNot sure where my last post went, but I'll try again.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be an editor, and even more importantly, sign me up as a customer!
