Dear Tom,
I enjoyed that post the first time round. I would love to share a pint someday and talk about life and society and God and whatnot. I think it would be fascinating to share our stories at a pub.

Working in a transdisciplinary environment must be awesome. I had that last year (to a certain extent) in getting to teach all subjects. I miss it dearly.

I think Picasso understood what happens to the natural curiosity of a child. It is, perhaps the worst byproduct of our educational system. We've pushed compliance over creativity.

Awesome post - I actually just blogged about this today on http://teacherdad.com/ I always talk to my own grade 8 students about understanding what the math means, making connections. Inquiry based learning activities that end with the students divining the algorithm themselves from their explorations and observations. Makes a huge difference in understanding.

Reminds me of the (possibly fictional) story of Picasso in the school, comparing how many artists etc. there were in the kindergarten vs. the high-schoolers. We start off with such potential and are taught to limit ourselves.

So I'm going to be the gauche person here and link to an old post of mine because reading this reminded me of it (in my defense, the post is from 2009). The thing I hated? Religion. Specifically, Sunday school: Luke 23:46 vs. John 19:28 in spite of John 3:16 (or The Worst Teacher I Ever Had).

A fun post. And this is snarky, but it's nice to see you use homeschooling here in that way ;)
